| From
shopping to Disneyland we have become a nation of leisure.
The products, access to information, ability to travel
have brought us farther apart while bringing us closer
together at the same time. Our culture has been transformed
by the technology and access to both products and information
like never before. The things in our lives that we "couldn't
do without" have only recently shaped the way
we live, work and play on a daily basis.
The ability for Madison Avenue
to shape our buying trends, our vacations,
our interiors, our cars. The ideal of Democratic
Design has brought a mixed blessing of
incredible innovation and yet may have
made us slaves to the very things that
seemed to set us free. The idea that design
was only for the elite has been shattered
and has given the masses the power to become
the navigators of their own destiny. America
as a culture has influenced the world and
there are few corners of the planet that
have not been affected by our ingenuity,
innovation and invention.
