Where would we be without the Brownie Camera? Photography came to the masses in a way that created a method whereby anyone could become a photographer. Suddenly everything around us became a target for this new vocation called Industrial Design. From our cars to our refrigerators, to the refreshments in our refrigerators, to our toothpaste container. All the "things" we touch and use on a daily basis became mass - and with mass marketing techniques attached. Advertising, branding, the desire to have the same do the same created a culture of shoppers and why not? We could afford it and we could own it.

Sears brought affordability and accessibility to every area of the USA with its mail-order catalog. Multi-brand stores like Walmart, Kmart, and Target have brought mega-stores to our neighborhoods. The internet has brought shopping to our bedrooms 24 hours a day.
